If you have a known allergy to a food diagnosed through an exposure (ex. anaphylaxis to a common allergy like peanuts or dairy), an IgE allergy blood test is not needed to confirm this allergy. An exposure with symptoms is a gold standard diagnosis for a food allergy. With any previously-diagnosed allergies, an allergist can work with you to determine management of the allergy, and possible further testing using a skin prick test, IgE test, and an oral food challenge.
